RUG PRODDY, SHAKER AND MORE! with Letty Lawrence
Prodded rugs have many names: clippy, proddy, proggy, tabbie and pooked. Prodded rugs are made of short rag strips poked through the back of hessian/burlap to achieve a thick, soft pile – fun and easy to do! Or try a Shaker rag rug combining knitting and small pieces of fabric – nothing wasted and endless possibilities for designs. Be prepared to play with color and fabric!!!
Materials Students must bring: Quilting hoop (18”-24”) to hold the burlap taut, ruler, sharp scissors
Letty Lawrence has always had a passionate interest in the fiber arts. She learned to sew and knit at an early age and maintained those skills throughout her university days and working career. But when her time freed up, her fiber explorations were unleashed, expanding into rug hooking, felting, dyeing, spinning, batik and more. In 2012 she completed her degree in fiber arts at Northern New Mexico College There she discovered a love for weaving, and so shipped a Rio Grande and a multi-harnessed loom to her home in Canada. Letty travels annually to New Mexico, and to Australia where she participates in the Alice Springs Beanie Festival and satisfies her insatiable fiber curiosity with classes/workshops. This year alone she took classes in bookmaking, SAORI weaving, papermaking, embroidery, tapestry weaving and sashiko Japanese folk embroidery. Letty teaches and exhibits in Canada, Australia and the U.S
