Shibori: Explorations in resist dyeing - with Dain Daller

Using fabric, string, clamps, wood blocks, sewing machines, and a needle and thread, we will creat resists, then dye our pieces with indigo, procion, and vat dyes. This class will cover the techniques used to create the resists, and teach the dyeing techniques that will allow students to do Shibori projects as home.

Class 1: tying and folding
Class 2: clamps and stitching
Class 3: machine stitching & woven shibori demo


Materials students should bring: Fabric or clothing to dye
Materials provided: Fabric, vat dye, indigo


Dain Daller is a shiborit weaver who lives and works in Northern New Mexico. Their sustainable home houses three looms. He takes raw materials of silk, cotton, linen, wool, and rayon, and transforms them into beautiful weavings and felted tapestries. His work has been displayed across the United States, as well as Thailand, and India.
