EVFAC will have a booth in the Vendor Hall at the Convergence International Fiber Arts Conference at the Albuquerque Convention Center, July 21 through 25. Our booth will have a “Made in New Mexico” theme and will showcase items that are grown or created here, including but not limited to examples of our wonderful fiber arts traditions. We will have a limited amount of space, of course, but would like to include smaller-sized items made by our members which will be for sale. We’re looking for things that customers can take with them - if you’ve ever been to Convergence, everyone is carrying a bag with yarn, tools and other irresistible fiber finds. This can include hand-dyed yarn, dye plants, small tools as well as fiber art. We will probably only be able to display a small number of each artist’s products, but we can bring back stock to replace items as they are sold. Our regular 30% consignment fee will apply to sold items. If you are interested in having your work included in our booth (or would like to let us borrow a special piece of traditional work for display, such as colcha embroidery, Navajo weaving, etc.), or if you would like to volunteer in our booth, please contact Diane at EVFAC, 505-747-3577; dianeb@evfac.org by July 15th.
Rag Rug Festival Santa Fe
EVFAC
will participate in the Santa Fe Rag Rug Festival, August 13 - 15 at
Center for Museum Resources on Museum Hill. Artists who wish to
sell with us should be willing to work in the booth during the
event. A limited amount of products can be displayed, but we can
have back stock available in vehicles to be brought out when something
sells. If you are interested in selling your work and signing up
to volunteer, please contact Diane or Martha at 505-747-3577,
education@evfac.org.
FALL FASHION SHOW
We
are planning a fall fashion show to benefit EVFAC. It is open to all
that we can show. It is still unformed and I am trying to get an idea
of numbers and participants. Please send me 2 digital images just to
get an idea of what you'd like to show (you will not be limited to only
2 items for the show or even those particular items). I'll then call a
meeting with a printout of those images for everyone involved to see.
If you are interested please send images by to:
lalexander82@hotmail.com or Leigh Alexander, 8A Platt Ct., Española, NM 87532; 505-747-0347. If
anyone is interested in proposing or curating one of our gallery shows
please contact Leigh Alexander, EVFAC Marketing Committee, at either
address above.

Many
EVFAC members are familiar with Robin Reider's Peace Corp experiences
in Africa. While she was there, she became a mentor for a young orphan,
Silas Owiti. Upon her return she enlisted the help of a number of
friends to continue to help Silas financially. He has now
completed trade school and has been invited to attend college and
become a teacher. This tuition is more than his previous education and
additional help is needed to make this a reality for Silas. He has had
a very difficult life. In spite of the hard times he has faced, he has
worked hard and been very successful in school. This additional
education will assure that he will be able to support himself and not
live in poverty. Any help any of you can offer will be greatly
appreciated. An account has been set up at the Los Alamos National
Bank, 2009 Galisteo Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505. Checks can be
sent to the bank to the Help Silas account, #0123695901. More
information is available at a web site which is being built for him:

EVFAC Ghost Ranch Show
Our
annual Ghost Ranch EVFAC show will take place from September 10 to
November 12 at the Florence Hawley Ellis Museum of Anthropology. The reception will be September 18 from 2 to 4pm. Current EVFAC members will receive a letter with application material in August.
Here
at the Center we miss the steady presence of Marie Absalon, who
volunteered every week from EVFAC’s beginnings until just a few months
ago. Marie is now homebound with heart failure, and some of us visit or call when we can to include her in all the EVFAC goings on. She
is in good spirits and would no doubt love to hear from you - a card or
a phone call would let her know that she is a special part of our
community. When I first came to work at the
Center in 1998, Marie spent many hours with me teaching me the ropes of
weaving and being a good friend. She’s certainly become like “family” to many of us.
