DESIGNING WITH BLOCKS - Multi Harness Weaving for More than 4 with Leigh Alexander

Level: This is a course for advanced weavers to increase their familiarity with different weave structures
The class will begin by creating profile drafts and translating them into various weave structures. Samplers will be set up each loom and students will have the opportunity to weave different structures on each loom. Students will then design their own profile drafts to create their own designs, warp and weave, trying a few different profiles for the final project.
Students should bring: Yarn for final project and a computer (preferred) or some graph paper.
Leigh Alexander is an award winning master weaver who has traveled the world to explore and learn textile techniques. She began weaving when she was 11 and continues to expand her repertoire of techniques. Leigh lived in Finland for a year, spinning and weaving wool blankets and in Thailand for several years, working with the silk weavers. A graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Leigh went on to work for such well known textile designers as Jack Lenore Larsen in NYC and Putumayo in Charleston, SC. She has been a production weaver, dyer, cutter, colorist, designers' consultant, housewares designer and production manager and assistant designer.
