HOOK A RUG, Save the Environment with Laura Salamy
Learn the basics of traditional rug hooking but with a twist – using old t-shirts rather than wool strips or yarn. We’ll still talk about those and other fibers, certainly, but we’ll do our part for the environment and save some money too. During the first class, you’ll learn how to transfer a pattern onto a monk’s cloth backing; prepare your materials; and begin hooking a chair pad, table “mat,” or wall-hanging. You’ll finish hooking the rug at home then learn how to finish it in the second class.
Laura is an experienced, albeit “less-than-traditional” rug hooker who owns her own business, High on Hooking (highonhooking.com), selling hooked items primarily in local shows. She recently left New England to live under the sunny, open skies of the Southwest, and currently resides in Albuquerque. She represents the Adobe Wool Art Guild, a cosponsoring guild of Albuquerque’s Fiber Arts Council.
