Screenprinting Tea Towels - with Aly Gray
Instructor Aly Gray will teach screenprinting basics that will expand your creativity. This is an all-levels workshop with a relaxed, playful approach. Experiment with layers, colors and patterns – the options are endless!
Screenprinting is all about using positive and negative space to convey an artistic message. Learn to create stencils using vellum paper, using your original designs. Print the image using silkscreen frames and professional ink. From designing patterns to mixing colors, we'll walk through every step of this amazing technique.
The workshop will provide paper and cotton fabric for practice printing and 2 tea towels for a final project. Students are welcome to bring their own solid-color garments to experiment with.
Inspired by the glowing New Mexico landscape, organic shapes and geometry, Aly Gray incorporates a sense of wonder and balance into her textile designs.
A recent transplant to the Southwest, she works as a seamstress for a custom hatmaker while building her business Wildleaf Design. She previously lived in New Orleans, where she gained professional experience at Alquimie Studio in screenprinting, nuno felting and dyeing natural fibers. She is always up for a new creative challenge, whether it’s designing costumes for the theater or hand dyeing yarn for a local shop.
A lifelong textile artist, she has been practicing her craft since her mother taught her to sew at age 5. Although she loves to practice a variety of textile art techniques, knitting and designing patterns holds a special place in her heart.Visit the Artist/Instructor Website: wildleafdesign.co
