I love working with all mediums, but wood and fabric speak to me the loudest. Phoenix Rising Creative Design reflects my journey—after 30 years in a stressful career, I now have the freedom to fully embrace creativity in retirement. Now living in New Mexico, I am constantly inspired by the rich artistic community around me. I've had the privilege of learning from talented local artists, taking classes to refine my skills, and collaborating with businesses and organizations that fuel my passion. Previously, my time in Oregon’s wine country inspired me to reclaim used wine barrels, a craft that has not only connected me with wineries but also earned admiration from friends and fellow artisans. I also have a deep appreciation for vintage craftsmanship, particularly in sewing. I collect and restore vintage Singer Featherweight sewing machines, meticulously refurbishing them and teaching quilters how to maintain and revive these cherished pieces of history. Seeing a 70-100-year-old machine restored to its former glory and passed on to another generation is incredibly rewarding. My love for fabric and design began in high school, leading me to sew for weddings, special events, and my children. Over the years, I’ve created everything from custom Halloween costumes to elegant bridal wear. About 15 years ago, I was drawn into the world of quilting, and it quickly became a passion. While I appreciate traditional quilting, I lean more toward fiber art, experimenting with unique techniques and designs. My Mariner’s Compass quilt—crafted as a queen-sized bed set—earned a President’s Choice ribbon at the Clark County Quilt Guild show and has been featured in juried exhibitions. I’ve also received several awards for quilts displayed at the Clark County Fair. Friends often call me a “Renaissance Woman” because I immerse myself in so many creative endeavors. In addition to woodworking and quilting, I knit, crochet, embroider (including traditional and Sashiko styles), paint, arrange flowers, and dabble in gourmet cooking. I also enjoy home repair, from rewiring outdoor path lights to helping my husband restore a 1934 pickup truck, which we proudly showed on the hot rod circuit. One of my greatest joys is sharing creativity with my family. I host "Nana Camp" for my grandchildren—a week filled with arts, crafts, and cooking adventures. Seeing their curiosity and enthusiasm for making things with their hands reminds me of why I love creating so much. Creativity is my passion, and I find immense joy in making, teaching, and inspiring others.
