Unfortunately Form & Fiber - a show that was scheduled at the DeVargas Center for August 2025, will be cancelled. We did not have the member participation we needed to move forward. We're committed to offering two successful member shows annually -- our Fall Fiber Fiesta is thriving going into its 13th year, and we want to create (or bring back!) an equally successful second show for EVFAC members. To help us plan future shows that truly serve our membership, we've put together a survey in order to understand what makes our events most successful and appealing to participants. Here is some of the feedback we received that we’ll be evaluating: APPLICATION PROCESS: The application process was generally efficient. Several areas for improvement were identified: - Request to prioritize artistic quality and merit over involvement with EVFAC in jury evaluation process. - Need for comprehensive guidelines to help applicants understand requirements and expectations - Earlier notification of application deadlines - Physical posting of application details on the Community Board at EVFAC would improve accessibility - Clarification regarding whether EVFAC will have designated community tables at events COST: Participants found the event fees reasonable given the staff support and networking opportunities provided. However, concerns were raised that recent membership fee increases have made overall participation costs higher, as membership is required to participate in shows. LOCATION: The Scottish Rite Temple received positive feedback as a venue, with participants noting its aesthetic appeal, efficiency in setup and breakdown, and good security. DeVargas Mall received mixed results as a venue. Challenges included its big retail environment, where people coming in might not be at all anticipating or looking for handmade goods, and security restrictions requiring setup and breakdown of displays increasing the workload for participants. SCHEDULING: If the application opened in March or April for an August show, this would be ideal for giving people enough time to plan. OTHER COMMENTS: Professional full-time studio artists face scheduling challenges in meeting EVFAC participation requirements due to their dedication to their craft and studio commitments. The current participation structure may not accommodate the time constraints of career artists who are fully engaged in their artistic practice. Additionally, participants expressed a need for varied booth size options to better accommodate different types of artwork displays and presentation needs.
