Beginners course, no experience necessary.

In this 4-day Beginning Weaving Class, students learn everything they need to know to design and weave simple but beautiful weavings with a 4-harness loom. The course includes instruction in loom setup (winding a warp and tying it on, planning and designing the colors and yarns for your weaving. Techniques covered in the class are plain weave, basket weave, twill, and tapestry techniques.
Materials students should provide:

About Karen Hampton: Karen Hampton is an internationally recognized conceptual fiber artist addressing issues of colorism and kinship in her artwork. She recently retired and moved to Alcalde, NM. Karen moved from Massachusetts, where she taught weaving and surface design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Karen weaves together the textures and colors of the ancient world with that of an imagined future. Materiality and imagery are part of the methodology she uses to access her ancestral and personal heritage, and she encourages her students to dig deep into their own stories. Karen has also taught at Haystack, Penland and Peters Valley Art Schools.

Class cancellation policy: Students will receive a full refund if cancelling up to 7 days before the beginning of the class. No refund within a week from the class’s first run date.
