Blaise Cayol began weaving baskets in the late 1990s. He is a basket artist, as well as gardener, primitive-style architect, and poet. All of this is encompassed in his work. His basketry focuses on the desire to work with raw organic materials, without any mechanical or chemical intervention, with a minimum of tools. His beautiful basketry work streches from the primitive to contemporary.
Blaise Cayol’s work is inspired by the mountains that surround him, and those of the Ubaye Valley, as well as the sacred mountain in southern Utah that protects the Navajo territory. The shepherds, trees, rivers, horizons, and the people of the land wherever he goes give him the desire to devote himself to art of basketry.
Join Blaise this July and begin your own journey into the world of traditional basketry with New Mexico Willows.
Materials students must provide for class:
A knife and pruning shears
