This is a beginner class, but all levels are welcome! Kate will show you the ABC’s or help you advance from whatever level you are at with the knitting machine.

In this three day workshop Kate Jacobsen will teach you the ABC’s of Machine Knitting! All knitting machines will be provided by the instructor for student use during the class. You can learn to make a garment, or even a sculptural piece with Kate! This class will get you well on your way with Machine Knitting. You will learn the with basic operation of a knitting machine , as well as a wide range of manipulations to make your own original cloth.

As stated above, there is no experience necessary for this workshop, but all levels are welcome. If you have experience with a knitting machine, but would like to improve your skills, or if you need a refresher: This is a great workshop for you! Kate will meet you at your level.

Materials:
Kate will be providing machines for use during this class, and initial yarns. After the initial first project in the class, students will then provide their own yarns. When selecting yarns for a later project, students will focus on thinner yarns, but capacity to use methods for thicker yarns. Kate will be there for your guidance during this yarn selection process, and yarns are available for purchase from EVFAC.

Please remember to bring snacks and water! 

About Kate Jacobsen:
Kate Jacobsen has been machine knitting since 1986, and has made a career of it since 1997. Kate had her own fashion design company from 1998 to 2010. Kate taught machine knitting in the Fashion Department at the School for the Art Institute of Chicago for 6 years, including extra workshops for a senior class. Other aspects of her career include theater, circus and movie costuming, as well as acting onstage and film.

Class COVID-19 policy: There are no COVID-19 restrictions for this class. Please do not come to class if you are feeling sick, and it is always advised to wear a mask if you are comfortable doing so.

Class cancellation policy:  Please note: All Class cancellations are charged a $15 processing fee in addition to the following policy: Class cancellations 7 days or less prior to first day of class will receive no refund. 8-13 days before beginning of class, students will receive an 80% refund. 14 days or more before beginning of class: Full refund.
