Class Minimum: 3 participants
 Class Maximum: 10 participants

Materials Fee (Paid directly to instructor upon arrival): $40

No experience is necessary;
just come prepared to play with all the colors!

Learn the basics of traditional rug hooking with a bit of a twist. Not only will we use the usual wool fabric strips and yarn (more about that in class), but we’ll also try old t-shirts, yarn, ribbon, and anything else you might have that you can pull a loop with.

In this workshop students will:

  • Discuss the history of rug hooking and where it is today, including its various forms;

  • Learn how to prep our materials;

  • Begin hooking a “mug rug,” a small table mat, or wall hanging; and

  • Discuss the ways we can finish the piece when the hooking is done.

Materials instructor will provide for class: (Paid directly to the instructor upon arrival: $40) Materials fee includes all fibers, hook, and monk’s cloth. A frame will be provided during the class, and can be purchased after class, if desired.

Materials students must provide for class:
Please bring a small pair of scissors. If you have a strong, 12-inch quilting hoop (e.g., a Morgan), you may want to bring that too.
Also, please bring any fibers that you want to try hooking with, but Laura will have plenty too. Examples would include old t-shirts, quilt cotton, bulky yarns, old sheets, etc.
