Course description:
Day 1:

Students will learn how to prepare screens and art work. You will first re-claim your screen, then you will coat your screen with emulsion. The screen will then dry over-night in our light tight drying box. After your screen has been prepared, you will ready your artwork on the computer with Gel.

Day 2:
The second day of this course will be spent burning your screen, and you will begin to print! You will learn to expose your screen, Students will be using water based silk screen inks and explore the many possibilities with color mixing and printing on your hand made design.

Be sure to bring plenty of clothe to print on! Cotton works best, old clothing and scrap fabric, t-shirts, pillowcases, whatever you can think of! You can try to print on just about anything, experimenting on different fabrics and paper on day two is important.

Materials students must provide for class:
Students must bring their single color designs on the first day of class. Designs must be high contrast, and a single color: a logo, or a few printed words, or a graphic image, line art, etc. This can be hand drawn, if a single color, or on a digital file. These images will be prepared and then transferred onto your screen for printing. It is best if the design in one color for this introductory class.

Bring your own fabric to print on, clothing, paper, etc. Don’t hold back, you’ll quickly learn how fast silk screening is!

Materials provided by the center:
Screens for use during the class (and one month following the class), all inks and supplies needed, emulsion.
