Learn to spin on a spinning wheel!
The Spinning Wheel has a long association with self-sufficiency and creativity. Over many centuries, humans have developed tools that increase productivity in yarn making. In years of the American Revolution, the Spinning Bee became a symbol of resistance and community.
Come spend some time getting to know this fascinating machine. We will discuss the history and development of the modern wheel with opportunity to try several wheels. Think of it as speed dating, but with textiles. Feel free to bring your own!

About June Covington: June Covington grew up in a family of makers; quilting, sewing and other handcrafts. When she came upon the Foxfire Books during high school, the photos of spinning wheels and looms struck a chord. At college, in Kentucky, she learned to weave while majoring in Art Education and Printmaking. After college, she returned to Texas where she learned to spin through the Dallas Hand Weavers and Spinners Guild. Through the Guild and other organizations she has taught or demonstrated textile crafts in many places.
June has presented textile workshops at MAVWA in Santa Fe, NM, Española Valley Fiber Arts Center in Española, NM, Dallas Museum of Art, Perot Museum and Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas. She is always happiest in a room full of people who are learning and making things. The sense of community that grows, even temporarily, from the experience of making yarn with simple tools in good company, is deeply satisfying. Time has a way of slowing down while folks work together.
Class COVID-19 policy: There are no COVID-19 restrictions for this class. Please do not come to class if you are feeling sick, and it is always advised to wear a mask if you are comfortable doing so.
Class cancellation policy: Please note: All Class cancellations are charged a $15 processing fee in addition to the following policy: Class cancellations 7 days or less prior to first day of class will receive no refund. 8-13 days before beginning of class, students will receive an 80% refund. 14 days or more before beginning of class: Full refund.
