Get lost in the magic of block printing with Hilary this October!
Learn how to create fabric patterns and prints through relief printmaking. Relief printmaking, linoleum blocks, and wood offer an engaging process to make unique prints on paper and cloth.
This three-day workshop teaches students to plan, design, carve, and print multiple images using various techniques. Students will learn how to compose original images using principles of design and practice design fundamentals to create repeats and random repeats while printing with inks by hand.
Bring your cotton textiles to customize your T-shirts, denim, tote bags, pillow cases - endless possibilities are endless. The first class will include planning and transferring your design onto a block, then carving techniques to turn your block into a print.
You will learn color ink mixing and block printing in the second class. On day three, you will have created unique textiles, playing with elements of rhythm and design.

Ink Scrapers Ink knives
Acrylic sheet to roll out ink

Materials students must provide for class:
Pencil (not pen!)
Sharpie marker
Apron
Picture/images ideas
Latex or rubber gloves (medical type not dishwashing gloves)
2 yards cotton, including assorted t-shirts, canvas bags or items you wish you experiment on
About Hilary Lorenz: Hilary Lorenz is a multi-disciplinary artist specializing in large-scale printed and cut paper installations. Their work in paper, wood, and mixed media revolves around a physical exploration and relationship with the natural world. They received their MA and MFA from the University of Iowa in Printmaking and Intermedia and earned full Professorship at LIUBrooklyn, where they taught for over 20 years. Lorenz’s work is exhibited internationally including the Denver Botanic Garden, CO; Bundaberg Regional Gallery, Australia; Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, Venezia, Italia, Atelier Lacourière et Frélaut, Paris, France; National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, Taiwan. Lorenz is a Fulbright Scholar and NEA Mid-Atlantic Fellow.

Class cancellation policy: Please note: All Class cancellations are charged a $15 processing fee in addition to the following policy: Class cancellations 7 days or less prior to first day of class will receive no refund. 8-13 days before beginning of class, students will receive an 80% refund. 14 days or more before beginning of class: Full refund.
