Create a wet felted vessel
with Churro Wool!
In this workshop participants will learn to make felt sheets and hollow vessels using water, soap and Navajo-Churro wool. The Navajo-Churro breed is considered a critically endangered rare breed; we are fortunate to have access to quality local sources of this special fiber (and their fleece felts beautifully!).
This wonderful three hour workshop offers a blend of fiber art and mindfulness practices while paying homage to Navajo-Churro sheep. We'll begin with a short grounding practice to attune to breath, body, and materials. Throughout the session, Andrea will guide you through the wet-felting process to form felt sheets and hollow vessels using a combination of Churro roving and un-carded fleece. We’ll explore the rich sensory elements of these materials and engage in a slow, thoughtful process that honors the meditative nature of felting.
No prior experience is needed. Come ready to work with your hands and leave with unique felt pieces and a deeper connection to fiber and form.
Materials instructor will provide for class:
consumables for each student: 1oz Churro fleece (scoured/not carded)
soap
bubble wrap
foam resist
foam roller
tulle netting, sponge
Materials students must provide for class:
4oz of Churro roving, any colors (available for purchase in the EVFAC shop)
hand towel
sharp scissors
apron (optional)
